A plant that is 15-30 cm tall. It has large broad dark green leaves with five veins which are very easy to distinguish if we break the stalk of its leaves.
Pentaneurus the lanceolate. The lanceolate differs from the large pentaneurus in that the leaves are narrower and lanceolate, while its ears are shorter. It has the same medicinal properties as pentaneuro the great.
Its leaves are edible but a bit hard, so we mainly collect the young, tender, fresh leaves and remove the stems. Their taste is bitter like spinach. The leaves when dried make a good tea.
It blooms from spring to summer. The pentaneuro lanceolate is also common in Greece. Its leaves are collected in summer and its spores in late autumn.
Pentaneuro contains carotene, vitamins C and K, glycosides, bitter substances, and tannins, organic acids, mucilage, saponins, enzymes, alkaloids and phytosides. In addition to their diuretic properties, pentaneuras have strong antiseptic and healing properties and this is due to the phytocides they contain.
A crumpled pentaneurus leaf to give its juice a chance to be released and act locally/ can help us from simple conditions such as skin irritations (cuts in the skin) and shoe blisters, insect and nettle bites, itching, fevers to serious conditions, such as cuts, ulcers, burns, hemorrhoids even in beetles and calluses.
